Tiffany Reisz's Imperial Collection, ie books you should read and/or buy
Hi Sinners!
I get asked all the time for book recommendations for people wanting to read something "like" my books once they're done reading mine. Well...tough. There are no books quite like mine (probably a good thing), but I can give you a list of books I love that influenced my writing and my thinking as well as books I absolutely loved. If you buy a friend all of these books for Christmas, you can tell them it's the "Tiffany Reisz Imperial Collection."
Looking for a male lead sort of kind of vaguely like Søren? Might I suggest THE WINTER PRINCE by Elizabeth Wein. It's a retelling of the Arthurian legend from the point-of-view of Mordred who is usually a villain in other Arthur stories. Medraut (as he is called in the book) is blond, dangerously intelligent, and morally ambiguous. It was this book that introduced me to the concept of S&M. The book includes themes of incest and torture. Medraut also calls his younger half-brother and half-sister "Little One."
Do you want epic BDSM with a big cast of characters? Try Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey. It is easily the best kink I've ever read. It is also the book that inspired me to write a BDSM series.
Are you a fan of the boys? Want some M/M reads? For serious M/M try CRY TO HEAVEN by Anne Rice, an elegant decadent work of historic fiction about the castrati singers in 17th Venice. [For a more light-hearted and fun M/M series, try THE MAGPIE LORD by K.J. Charles. I've fallen hard for Stephen Day and Lord Crane.]
Want a mindfuck read to end all mindfuck reads? If you like mysteries, then try AN INSTANCE OF THE FINGERPOST by Iain Pears. It blew the top of my head off. You won't understand how amazing this book is until you read it all. Be warned, it's huge. It's a book for people looking to have their heads blown off, not for someone looking for a light easy read. I cannot recommend it highly enough. But if you don't read to the end (it's super crazy long) you won't get why it's in my top five favorite books in the history of fiction.
Other top five favorite books of all time...
THE VINTNER'S LUCK by Elizabeth Knox
ALL THE KING'S MEN by Robert Penn Warren
Those are some of my favorite works of fiction ever.
Happy reading, Sinners! Merry Bookmas!
