While you're waiting for The Mistress...

Hi Readers!

I'm recovering from a sinus infection so I thought I'd put my bed-ridden-ness to use today and spout off some book recommendations for those of you waiting eagerly for The Mistress, which comes out on July 30th.

When people ask me what I write, I usually reply that my books are "modern Gothics." Gothic is a literary term that means romance + horror. Plus the common tropes of Gothic romance include incest, wicked clergy, unnatural sexual practices (seriously, check out The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis. Basically if the book has a church in it and can be described as 'lurid' it's probably Gothic. Just like mine!

Alas, there aren't many of us Gothic writers out there. The queen of modern Gothic writers is Anne Rice. I adore her. She is my writing hero. The following books are must-reads by Anne Rice.
